Peter Shaker | ELSS Executive Director

Peter Shaker is a State of Connecticut certified professional educator in several subject areas, including Social Studies and English for multilingual learners. He holds a BA degree in communication, supplemented by minors in political science and journalism. In addition, Peter received an MS degree in education and has taught from the middle school to the university level. In past years, he has engaged with various nonprofit organizations, including Kiwanis Club, Special Olympics International, the Jane Goodall Institute, AFS Intercultural Programs, and CT Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. During Peter's service in the Peace Corps, he played a key role in Thailand by teaching English and providing essential training to Thai teachers. Besides exploring Thailand's diverse regions, his travel adventures have led him to destinations such as Malaysia, Japan, Egypt, and Canada. Peter's profound understanding of the challenges faced by English learner students fueled his commitment to making a difference. Hence, Peter and his educator colleagues founded English Learner Support Services in 2016 to assist students with building their English language proficiency.
